Post-Doctoral student David Jacobson wins the prestigious K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award from the National Institute of Health (NIH). 

On February 25, 2021, Prof. Zdeněk Herman passed away. Prof. Herman has been a visiting Fellow at JILA, once in 1980 and again in 2001. His contribution in the field of molecular dynamics and ion-molecule reactions was well recognized by the international community and rewarded by many prizes and awards on the national and international levels.

 John Irvin Castor of Livermore, California passed away suddenly of a suspected aneurysm on Jan. 19, 2021 at the age of 78. 

JILA Fellow Heather Lewandowski has been awarded the 2021 Boulder Faculty Excellence Award. This award was given specifically for Lewandowski's excellence in teaching and pedagogy.

The US Postal Service is about to issue a stamp commemorating the famous Chieng-Shiung Wu, a female Chinese-American physicist.

JILA Fellow Margaret Murnane has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Limerick this year - her 6th Honorary Doctorate.

The Micius Quantum Prize recognizes significant scientific advances ranging from the early conceptual contributions to the recent experimental breakthroughs. The Micius Quantum Prize 2020 focuses on the broadly defined field of quantum metrology, recognizing scientific advances ranging from early conceptual contributions to experimental breakthroughs. The laureates this year are Carlton Caves, Hidetoshi Katori, and Jun Ye.

Mitch Begelman becomes the 5th JILA Fellow to be named a Distinguished Professor named CU Distinguished Professor.

Margaret Murnane and Henry Kapteyn, who pioneered technologies for generating coherent X-rays, which helped propel research in dynamic processes in atoms, molecules and materials, have been named fellows of the National Academy of Inventors.

The Richard Nelson Thomas Award was established by the friends and family of R.N. "Dick" Thomas to provide an annual award to the year's most outstanding graduate student in astrophysics. Each year, the JILA astrophysical faculty nominates outstanding students and vote to determine the recipient of the award. 

Led by CU Boulder and designed to push the frontiers of quantum sensing, Quantum Systems through Entangled Science and Engineering (Q-SEnSE) involves 37 researchers from 11 institutes located in 6 different states (and one collaborating from Europe). 

Konrad Lehnert becomes the 6th JILA Fellow elected as an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellow by the Council of the AAAS.

JILA fellow Jun Ye has been named Highly Cited Researcher for 2020 by Clarivate Analytics. Ye has been awarded the Highly Cited Researcher in the field of physics every year since 2014.

Regal is the first recipient for JILA's new endowed chair in optics and photonics.
