JILA fellow Jun Ye has been named Highly Cited Researcher for 2020 by Clarivate Analytics. Ye has been awarded the Highly Cited Researcher in the field of physics every year since 2014.
Ye is one of approximately 6,400 researchers across 21 fields and of 179 physicists awarded in 2020. The Highly Cited Researcher award is given to researchers that have highly-cited papers that rank in the top 1 percent based on the field and year as listed in the Web of ScienceTM. To determine the 2020 awardees, Clarivate Analytics analyzed papers published and subsequently cited during 2009 – 2019.
Ye’s prestigious research is focused on quantum science. His group uses ultracold atoms and molecules to develop high-accuracy atomic clocks, high precision laser spectroscopy, high resolution quantum control, and optical frequency metrology. One area of particular research is the use of ultracold strontium to obtain precise stabilization of lasers which enabled them to develop a highly accurate optical atomic clock.
