JILA and NIST Fellow as well as University of Colorado Boulder Professor Dr. Jun Ye has been awarded a 2022 Gold Medal from the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC). The gold medal is the highest honorary award given by the DOC and "is granted by the Secretary for distinguished performance characterized by extraordinary, notable, or prestigious contributions that impact the mission of the Department and/or one or more operating units," according to the DOC. Ye has been awarded this medal in honor of his ground-breaking work on optical atomic clocks. The citation for the award reads: "For the most precise measurement of the gravitational redshift using optical atomic clocks, further confirming Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity."
