Abstract
<p>By allowing a large ensemble of laser cooled and trapped <sup>87</sup>Rb atoms to interact collectively\&nbsp;<span style="line-height: 1.6em;">with an optical cavity, I have explored two phenomena that may prove useful for enhancing precision\&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">measurements: superradiant lasing and spin squeezing.\&nbsp;</span></p>
