Observations of Nonthermal Emission from Early-Type Stars

Author
Abstract

Observations of a distance-limited sample of 44 Wolf-Rayet (WR) and 25 OB stars were made at 6 cm with the VLA. The stronger sources were reobserved at 2 cm and 6 cm. Based on the criteria of source strength, variability, spectral index, and spatial extent, we conclude that the emission from 5 OB stars and 2 WR stars is produced by nonthermal processes. The ratio of probable nonthermal emitters to probable thermal emitters in our sample is 0.6 in the OB stars and 0.2 in the WR stars.
