Abstract:

Abstract: Today we all take for granted the GNSS chips embedded in our phones and the convenience this affords in navigating in unfamiliar places. Scientists both appreciate the physics behind the technology, and have leveraged it in unexpected ways for scientific applications from the measurement of atmospheric conditions to tests of the gravitational redshift. My talk will discuss several of these applications and the key engineering contributions that made them possible. I’ll also talk about how GNSS is evolving today and my understanding of the contributions that quantum clocks and sensors will play in its future.
