Abstract:
Modern quantum technologies aim, among other things, to refine our understanding of quantum many-body dynamics and to enhance measurement precision by harnessing complex quantum behaviour. Long-range interacting systems, such as trapped ion arrays and neutral atoms inside optical cavities, can do both. I will show theoretical work along these frontiers, quantum dynamics and quantum-enhanced metrology, in both experimental platforms. As specific case studies, I explore the dynamics of the atom-cavity system when driven by an external laser, and then discuss protocols that prepare entangled states for quantum-enhanced sensing in trapped ion arrays and atom-cavity systems.
