Abstract:

Understanding strongly interacting quantum materials is a crucial goal of physics. Optical lattices can simulate such systems in a clean and coherent way. I will show how the dynamics of optical lattices can be characterized and tuned with accessible tools like laser driving and spin-orbit coupling. The resulting systems can both realize a wide array of useful models from condensed matter physics, and be used for the fascinating prospect of generating useful quantum entanglement.
