==========

Abstract: Last century, Landau taught us to classify phases of matter (magnets, solids, superfluids...) using symmetry. In the last 40 years, we’ve been discovering new phases of matter, generally called topological phases, that seem to lie outside this framework. In this public lecture I’ll describe how, by suitably generalizing our notions of symmetry, we can incorporate topological phases of matter into a Generalized Landau Paradigm.
