[NOTE: Notation below referring to the “N:” drive means the samba drive served from node jilau1. Check your drive mappings and change the N: drive if necessary to be
\\jilau1\apps
]
We have a 5-user concurrent license for SigmaPlot
Pre-Install:
The install will not uninstall previous versions you have on your machine, you must do this prior to installing the new version. This is done from Start, Settings, Add/Remove Programs, or in Vista Start, Control Panel, Programs, Programs & Features, Uninstall Programs.
To Install:
[NOTE: You need to be logged in as Administrator so that the installed software will be available to All Users.]
1) SigmaPlot uses the Sentinel License Manager. We have the license server installed on one of our central servers, so it is necessary to make your machine aware of the location. Select Start, Control Panel, System, and click on the Advanced tab. Then click on the Environment Variables button and look at the lower panel for System Variables. Click New and enter
LSFORCEHOST 128.138.140.150
OR
LSFORCEHOST 128.138.107.152
depending on which subnet you are on. If you are not sure of your subnet you can check it. Open a DOS window and type “ipconfig” w/o the quotes. Part of the information returned will be the IP address of your machine. Match the .140 or .107 part and use the appropriate line above.
Make sure you type the name in upper case just as I have it there. Click OK to back out of the whole thing. This will make an environment variable that the Sigmaplot application will use on startup to check the license .
2) Browse to the file
N:\win\SigmaPlotXx\SigmaPlot\setup.exe
(where Xx is the more recent number version) and double click on it to start the installation.
You will see
- Splash screen
- License screen. We have a 5-seat concurrent license at JILA so click the Accept radio button
- User information screen. Enter
JILA Software Manager
JILA
###### (you Insert Serial Number here)
A copy of the serial number is located in
N:\Win\SigmaPlotXx\SigmaPlotXxSerial.txt
Open that file and copy the serial number and insert it here.
- License Type. Select the radio button for License File. Then use the Browse to select the file
N:\Win\SigmaPlotXx\SigmaPlotXxLice.txt
- Destination screen. This should be OK, click Next.
- Select Features. Normally take all. You can un-select the Pharmacology options unless you specifically need it by clicking on it and deselecting.
- Ready screen. Select both check boxes and continue.
- Complete Screen - click Finish
Patches and Updates:
After the initial install, which places the level-0 DVD version on your machine, always check for any patches or updates. This will be located in a same-named subdirectory in the same file tree area where you found the initial installation file.
Firewall Issues:
If you are using Windows Firewall, it will most likely allow access by SigmaPlot to the license server. If you are using Outpost or other firewall that offers more control you may need to make an exception for the executable Spw.exe. This is usually located in
C:\Program Files\SigmaPlot\SPWXx\Spw.exe
If your firewall has a rules wizard just run that and it should get all it needs. If you need to make the rule by hand it will need it set for
Protocol = UDP
Remote Host = 128.138.140.150 and 128.138.107.152
Allow it
The IP addresses are both for the server JILANT3 but different subnet addresses for the same machine. You may or may not need both addresses but toss them in anyway. The structure of the entry will depend on your specific firewall.
