Who's Who In JILA Computing

Mathematica - 4.2 Upgrade and 2003 Passwords (All Platforms):

It is that time of year again when all University of Colorado Mathematica users need to get new passwords for the upcoming year. Wolfram's web site is now issuing the 2003-2004 passwords so all users can apply for and receive them. Costs is $110 for Win/Mac single-user type machines and $240 for UNIX two-seat licenses. Unlimited UNIX such as we have on jilau1 is $780.

This password change coincides with our addition of version 4.2, so folks should also upgrade their installations at the same time. Please see

   http://jilawww.colorado.edu/~dunwell/installs/math42nt.htm

for Windows and

   http://jilawww.colorado.edu/~dunwell/installs/macaps.htm

and the Mathematica section for Macs.

Remote UNIX workstations and users of our central UNIX machine jilau1 need take no action, I will make the change to version 4.2 later in the month. Our current version of Mathematica 4.1 will be retired on the first of the year on all platforms. (aad)

Itanium 2 System from HP Available for Testing:

The Itanium 2 is the new 64-bit chip from Intel. The posted SPEC floating-point result for this processor in HP machines is quite impressive (http://www.specbench.org/osg/cpu2000/results/cfp2000.html). HP has very generously allowed us to test a zx6000 workstation for a short period of time. If you would like to run your codes on the zx6000 to test it's performance, please contact either Mark or Pete to obtain an account. Codes (FORTRAN 77/90/95 or c/c++) which are self-contained are best for this trial. I encourage everyone who compiles their own codes to take advantage of opportunity. (met)
