Event Details & Abstract: 

The hallmark of superconductivity – zero electrical resistance – explains why superconducting resonators can have very low dissipation (high Q). Superconducting resonators at the macro scale have been developed for decades and enable energy-efficient high-energy accelerators such as the LHC. At the micro scale, superconducting resonators have attracted considerable attention in recent years and are being applied to a rapidly growing range of applications, from photon detectors for astrophysics to quantum circuits. This presentation will describe the advances in superconducting microresonators over the past two decades, focusing on their use as detectors and the relevant physical phenomena, but including a wide variety of other applications.
