Ice nucleation in the atmosphere: a molecular perspective

Event Details

Event Dates:

Friday, November 18, 2016 - 4:00pm

Seminar Location:

  • JILA Auditorium

Speaker Name(s):

Valeria Molinero

Speaker Affiliation(s):

Utah State University
Seminar Type/Subject

Scientific Seminar Type:

  • Phys Chem/Chem Phys Seminar

Event Details & Abstract:

Crystallization of water in clouds critical for precipitation and to determine the radiative properties of the atmosphere. In this presentation I will discuss our recent work using molecular simulations and theory to understand the mechanisms of ice formation, the structure of ice in clouds, and the role of surfaces on promoting ice nucleation.
