Event Details & Abstract:

Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are a new and intriguing transient radio phenomenon, believed to be extragalactic in origin. These short, intense bursts are dispersed in frequency by the ionized interstellar and intergalactic medium, making them ideal probes of the ionization state of the gas along the line of sight. In this talk, I will discuss new discoveries about FRBs and how we might use them to study the epoch of helium reionization at redshifts between 3 and 4.
