Graduate student Travis Nicholson (Ye group) handily won the competition for Best Student Paper at the joint  symposium of the IEEE-International Frequency Control Symposium (IFCS), the IEEE-International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS), the IEEE-International Symposium on the Applications of Ferroelectric (ISAF) and the Piezoresponse Force Microscopy and Nanoscale Phenomena in Polar Materials (PFM), and the European Frequency and Time Forum (EFTF). Nicholson presented the latest results on the Ye group’s ultracold strontium clock project.

NIST physicist and former JILAn Andrew Ludlow (Ye group) won a Young Scientist award at the same symposium.

"This is great news,"said Tom O'Brian, chief of NIST's Time and Frequency and Quantum Physics divisions. "It is very gratifying to see the broad and deep recognition for JILA/NIST atomic standards programs."
