Classical fields and nonequilibrium Bose gases beyond mean-field theory

Event Details

Event Dates:

Seminar Type/Subject

Event Details & Abstract:

The phenomenon of Bose-Einstein condensation occurs due to the quantum statistics of identical bosons, but results in a state that can be described using an equation of motion for a classical field.  In this talk we will give a pedagogical overview of classical field approaches to the beyond mean-field dynamics of Bose gases.  We will then illustrate their application to low-dimensional systems, the dynamics of phase transitions, and nonequilibrium superfluidity.
