Event Details & Abstract: 

In this talk I will present possibilities to explore Majorana physics with AMO tools. After a brief review on how to create and detect Majorana fermions in optical lattices I will present two of our recent results: First, I will present a protocol that allows for efficient braiding of Majorana fermions in optical lattices and explain how this protocol can be used to implement a topologically protected quantum algorithm. Second, we will discuss the possibility that Majorana physics arises in a fully number conserving theory.
