Abstract: I will provide an overview of some of the science drivers of direct imaging of exoplanets and then provide a brief survey of the observational efforts involving stellar coronagraphy. The need for treating hardware optical aberrations is highlighted. In ground-based direct imaging, the most promising methods for imaging and correcting the hardware aberrations are based on stellar coronagraphy and "freezing" the atmospheric turbulence, which kHz frame rates. I explain the concepts involved and discuss plans for implementation.
