New Opportunity! The Jimenez group at JILA has immediate openings for multiple postdoctoral researchers to work on an exciting new initiative in quantum biometrology. The objective of the project is to investigate how entangled photons can be used to enhance two-photon absorption in fluorophores, and to find the fluorophores that exhibit the largest enhancement. The ultimate goal is to enable imaging of biological systems with much lower intensities than typically used in two-photon microscopy. The project is a collaboration involving the Quantum Photonics group at NIST-Boulder. The positions will be based in Boulder, Colorado, but will also include collaboration with Marcus Cicerone in the Biomaterials Group at NIST in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Responsibilities of the incumbent will include designing, constructing and characterization of new high-flux parametric downconversion-based sources of entangled photon pairs optimized for absorption by fluorophores, and helping to plan and build an apparatus to screen fluorophores for this effect. The incumbent will have access to world-leading experts and technology in the field of photonic quantum state detection and generation. A qualified candidate should have expertise in experimental quantum optics and/or ultrafast optics. Expertise with measurement automation, strong communication skills and evidence of working within a team of researchers are also highly desired. The starting date is between December 1, 2017 and March 30, 2018. US citizenship is not required.
