Event Details & Abstract: 

Integrating atoms with nanophotonic structures enables the exploration of new paradigms in quantum optics and many body physics. By tailoring the optical properties of nanophotonic systems, it is possible to engineer light-matter couplings. For example, dispersion-engineered photonic crystal waveguides (PCWs) permit not only stable trapping and probing of ultracold neutral atoms, but also the possibility to study the physics of strong, photon mediated interactions between atoms. In this talk I will revisit the experimental progress towards trapping several atom in a 1D PCW and the extension to future generations of 1D and 2D PCW.
