Event Details & Abstract: 

I will present plans for a new research platform to microscopically manipulate quantum states of neutral atoms and ions. I will emphasize how optical tweezers, and the confinement afforded by them, enable many of the complementary benefits of neutral atoms and trapped-ions to be realized in a unified, versatile platform.  The talk will address various directions enabled --- including atom-ion chemistry, many-body physics, and fundamental studies of entanglement --- as well as the experimental machinery relevant to pursue them.
