Approximately 50% of Sun-like stars harbor exoplanets orbiting at a distance less than the orbit of Mercury.

I am exploring the possibility that this bimodal distribution arises from the orientation of large scale magnetic fields with respect to the axis of the protoplanetary disk precursor to these systems.
