Scientific Glossary
- Nanometer: One billionth of a meter.
- Nanoscale: At nanometer size; a device a few to a hundred nanometers in size.
- Nanosecond: One billionth of a second.
- Neutron star: The superdense remains of a massive star following a supernova explosion.
- Newtonian gravitation constant: Physical constant (G) that appears in Isaac Newton's law of universal gravitation and Einstein's theory of general relativity.
- Noble gas: Chemical elements exhibiting extremely low chemical reactivity due to their filled electron valence shells.
- Nonlinear dynamics: Can be described by chaos theory in which seemingly random behavior is actually well defined, orderly, and sensitive to initial conditions.
- Nonlinear optics: Branch of optics that describes the behavior of light observed at very high intensities, such as those generated by pulsed lasers.
