With quantum simulations it is possible to explore many-body quantum physics in regimes that are beyond what is computationally accessible. Using ultracold fermionic atoms in optical lattices, we realize the iconic “Fermi-Hubbard” model, and our quantum gas microscope gives us ultimate single particle control. With this quantum technology we have already observed antiferromagnetism in the Hubbard model and signatures of geometric strings upon doping; now we are starting to "zoom in" on the low-temperature phases of this model, which may hold the key to understanding quantum materials such as high temperature superconductors and beyond.
