JILA Fellow Tom Perkins has been elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Perkins was elected for his pioneering advances in high-resolution studies of single biological molecules.

Perkins is among the 416 AAAS members elected Fellows by their peers. The honor recognizes distinguished efforts to advance science, either scientifically or socially. The newly elected fellows will be presented with an official certificate and a gold and blue (representing science and engineering, respectively) rosette pin at a ceremony on 16 February 2019 at the AAAS Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.

The tradition of electing AAAS Fellows began in 1874 to recognize members for their scientifically or socially distinguished efforts to advance science or its applications. The nomination process for the 2019 Fellow Cycle will open by the end of November 2018.
