Event Details & Abstract: 

The radioactive 225Ra atom is an excellent case to search for a permanent electric dipole moment (EDM).  Because of its large nuclear octupole deformation and high atomic mass, 225Ra is sensitive to T-violating interactions in the nucleus. We developed a cold-atom approach for studying the spin precession of the 225Ra atoms held in an optical dipole trap, and demonstrated the principle of the method by completing the first measurement of its atomic EDM.  The latest results and an outlook will be presented.
