Event Details & Abstract: 

Suspensions composed of temperature-sensitive hydrogel particles permit easy control of colloidal packing and concurrent viewing by video microscopy [1]. I will describe a group of experiments from my lab that exploit these novel features to explore fundamental condensed matter physics phenomenology ranging from phase transition mechanisms in crystals [2] to mechanisms of rearrangement in glasses [3].
