Mounting evidence suggests that galaxy mergers are a crucial stage in the growth of the most massive galaxies and for powering the brightest supermassive black holes (SMBHs). In this evolutionary scenario, the merger stage fuels the inspiralling SMBHs through enhanced accretion, and the power generated by the final, merged, radiatively efficient SMBH acts as a form of feedback on the host galaxy through outflows. To investigate this evolution at earlier look-back times when galaxy mergers were more frequent, I have used the [NeV] and [NeIII] emission lines to select high-redshift (0.8
