Technical Support Services

The computing staff manages Linux and Windows servers, and supports a local network of desktop computers,  storage, printers, and mobile devices. The staff also provides expert consulting, training, repair assistance, and software licensing and installation. In addition, the computing group supports many aspects of research computing, including high-performance clusters, data acquisition and analysis, parallel programming, and access to supercomputing centers.

The electronics shop staff provides design, fabrication, and repair of specialized laboratory electronics, as well as consultation and training courses in electronics principles and techniques. The staff also maintains a pool of electronic test equipment that can be borrowed, and manages an electronics parts storeroom.

JILA's instrument shop staff designs and fabricates a wide range of state-of-the-art experimental apparatuses and offers training courses in the use of shop equipment. The staff also provides expert fabrication and services for electron microscopy and optical coating.

The W. M. Keck Optical Measurement Laboratory, a research and educational facility funded by the Keck Foundation, provides optical-measurement and optical-characterization instruments and expands JILA's optical- and nano-fabrication facilities.

The communications office is responsible for outreach communications, including quarterly JILA Light & Matter newsletters; design and development of websites for both JILA and the AMO Center for Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics; graphic design and digital media production; websites for JILA Fellows; scientific manuscript editing; JILA seminars and events kiosks; and assistance with presentation materials.

The supply office staff is responsible for purchasing, accounts payable, shipping, freight charges, building services, laboratory setup and break down, property, general scientific and office supplies, and close-in parking passes. Staff members work to make these services run smoothly for researchers, staff, and students.
